OUR TECHNOLOGY

LPWAN, OUR AREA OF EXPERTISE

FarmTasker solutions are licensed by tech lead company, ellenex. All our products and solutions are based on Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) communication technologies. We offer a unique combination of sensors based on the main LPWAN technologies NB IoT, Cat M1, LoRaWAN, and Low Orbit Satellites. All device types, regardless of communication technologies are pre-configured to our serverless software platform with single-click visualization and alarming services.

LPWAN technologies have two important characteristics in common:

  • Low power: make it possible to design battery-operated devices with long battery life (more than 10 years).

  • Long Range: they can communicate over long distances (more than 20km in the field)

The combination of these two key features has made them ideal choices for monitoring solutions on the farm.

NB IoT / Cat M1

NB IoT or Cat M1 are cellular communication technologies running on 4G and 5G networks but in different forms. So, wherever there is coverage for the cellular network, you may have coverage for Nb IoT or Cat M1. So, you don't need any gateway or modem to receive the data from the device.

The beauty of NB IoT is while it is running on cellular networks,

  • It has 5-7 times better penetration.

  • significantly lower power consumption. for most of our devices, the single battery device can transmit more than 10,000 times; which is 10 years + battery life for 4-5 times transmission per day.

  • and much lower connectivity costs.

FarmTasker works with global connectivity providers to assure the quality of connectivity. Below is the list of countries with operational NB IoT networks:

LoRaWAN

LoRaWAN® technology is developed by Semtech, designed to wirelessly connect battery-operated devices to the internet in regional, national or global networks, and targets key Internet of Things (IoT) requirements such as bi-directional communication, end-to-end security, mobility, and localization services. LoRaWAN® network architecture is deployed in a star-of-stars topology, so hundreds of devices can connect to the gateway(s) and relay data packets between the sensor and a central network server. our clients are choosing LoRaWAN over the other communication technologies to enjoy the benefit of:

  • Longer battery life (~20,000 data transmission with single battery)

  • Easily set up a private network

  • The longer range of communication (20-30km)

FarmTasker works closely with global partners, network providers, and system integrators to support our clients in any level.

Low Power Satellite

Low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites are one of the newest areas in wireless monitoring. Full commercialization of this technology revolutionizes the internet of things and reliable monitoring of assets in remote areas. With more than a third of the world still offline, this satellite constellation can help connect the unconnected and bridge the digital divide that’s leaving remote and rural communities behind.

FarmTasker is proud of being one of the first companies to offer a reliable range of low-cost satellite-operated solutions for the farming industry. We are working closely with tech developers and global satellite connectivity providers to connect your farm to space.

This is the question we hear from our clients almost every day. The answer is not easy as it depends on many parameters. But to keep it very simple as a general guideline, recommended starting with NB IoT for stationary assets and LTE Cat M1 for mobile assets if there is cellular coverage in your area. If cellular connectivity is not great in your area, prefer to have a private network or just for any reason you are one of the anti-telco farmers, go for a LoRaWAN with peace of mind.

Many people choose LoRaWAN over cellular because they think it is cheaper. Considering the cost o the gateway, LoRaWAN network servers from one side and the lower SIM cost of NB IoT / LTE Cat M1 compare to other cellular services, on the other side, has made these two solutions very close in terms of the overall cost. The main advantage of LoRaWAN over the cellular options is the power of running a private network, not necessarily the price.

And the option of the satellite is easy to choose when there is no option available for LoRaWAN or cellular.
